As a family firm that has pioneered the manufacture of recycled paper products for over 150 years, Smith Anderson understands the importance of marrying commercial focus with corporate responsibility to achieve longevity. Smith Anderson, like many other companies, has changed significantly over the years but it remains a family owned business rooted in the heart of Fife, Scotland. The core business produces over 2 billion high quality paper bags every year and continues to optimise the use of recycled materials, whilst reducing its environmental impact and acting responsibly towards employees and the local community.
In 2012, the company commenced a move from its site in Falkland to a modern unit on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy in Fife, which is now complete. Our new building offers a high quality working environment, much better access and more space. The production area is on one level, allowing for improved operations and greater opportunities to be resource and energy efficient, including a move to a ‘6S’ production system that also focuses on safety. We are confident that this new facility will enable us to become a world class, low cost, and lean converter.
This report is the second in an ongoing series about our approach to sustainability.
